Wedding Videos: Yay or Nay?

But I can’t be the only one who is truly fascinated with all things royal wedding related. Here is what I will say – I have always been a person who admires and respects our sovereign. I think the idea of royalty is romantic, I think we were all born with a purpose so I get the idea that the Queen was chosen by “Grace of God” (NOT interested in a religious debate, THANKS) and I of course, think all weddings are beautiful because I am pure hippie stock – love is beaurtiful.
That’s just the way I am – and with respect of course comes fascination. Now, I don’t sit around all day reading royal biographies but I will always take five minutes out of my day to watch videos like THIS!
Interesting, non?
I would like a wedding video I think – my good friend Fussy Russy sent me this one (and he doesn’t read this so don’t tell him I posted it) but this is an incredibly beautiful wedding video as well. There is a cost, of course. So is it worth it? If you have goregeous photos, then you can just make a killer slide show. It’s always questionable – every wedding expense is questionable.
And if I’m going to do it – I’m going all out, like Glyncora and Mark. This is going to be high quality, music video style. And that’s bound to set me back $5k. What do you think? Worth it or non?

Part 2: I almost - don’t know what to say

Now that the Royals are getting married a few months before me, obviously I am doing everything they are doing. If the flippin’ future Kind of England can send a fax as a Save the Date, you bet your row boat that it’s okay for everyone else to do the same.

In fact, I heard it’s in vogue. After all, sending information a la facsimile is vintage, which is all the rage. And if we’re all going to get our hair cut like Kate Middleton, then we might as well send stationary like Kate Middleton does.

Let’s talk fax template for your new Save the Date. Do you do something professional? Whimsical? Do you scotch tape a Dilbert comic strip to the bottom? How is this all going to play out – and what about your guests who don’t have a fax? BTW what kind of person doesn’t have a fax machine hooked up at all time.

Don’t have a fax machine yourself? Well – that’s problematic. It’s easy enough to buy one – you can find used ones on kijiji, no problem. But you are also going to need a fax number.  FaxItNice will let you send 10 faxes for $4.99 (!) so that’s about $20 total just to fax your STD’s plus the cost to buy a fax machine ($30) plus the paper ($2) plus if you want someone to design a neat little graphic to go ON the fax ($10 on SocialAnnouncements.ca <my next project  - coming soon!>) . This shiz is adding up.

So for Part 2 of this post on Royalty flipping wedding etiquette upside down and backwards, here is what MY save the date Fax to the Queen would look like.

*You’ll notice that there is no fax numba on this STD – they do not list a fax number for The Queen on the Royal Family contact page. And I would bet $100 that’s because they got about 3000 faxes from crazy people (like me) replying to a faxed Save The Date they did not receive.

Part 1 - I almost–don’t know what to say

Some things just make me smile. I am the queen of sending notes via fax machine. I do it all the time to my bestie, Reah. We send drawings and notes and secret codes – it’s ALMOST as fun as getting a letter in the mail.

So one the one hand, it doesn’t surprise me one bit that I am secretly in love with the Royal Save the Date Fax story that is circulating the web. But on the other hand – wow. People are saying that they sent the faxes as feelers, to ensure other Royal families don’t have any prior commitments that day. Yes – that I get and totally respect.

A fax tho? Couldn’t even be an email, from one personal assistant to another? Do people even have their fax machines plugged in regularly anymore? And where do Royal families even keep fax machines – I picture them sitting kind of off the kitchen, in a space that holds out of date but not out of use kinds of stuff. You know – the vacuum cleaner that you kept because it worked but you bought a lighter one to do the stairs? The fax machine is in the same closet.

And wouldn’t you think it would be harder to gather all your fax numbers as opposed to email addresses? Unless there has been some serious fax machine updates in the last five years (and I have no idea why there would be) where you can hold all the fax numbers in an excel spreadsheet and then type out your message and send it out via fax from your computer… let’s circle back. Why the eff bomb wouldn’t you just use email?

And now I have to find a way to incorporate a fugging fax machine into my wedding planning. Great.

Videoblog! Wedding stationary that doesn’t suck, made by you!

I know – this title is literal. But sometimes, that’s what sells.

Over the holidays, I was (as usual) messing around my “computer programs” (as The Cpt so lovingly refers to them) but I had a little more time than usual and a few less distractions. So I decided to let Picnik.com stretch it’s legs a little and see what kind of stationary designs I could come up, on my own, using the online program.

Now, everyone knows that Picnik is my FAVOURITE pass time (thanks Mariana, mwuah!) and one day, I’ll shut up about how much I love it. But that day is not today, friends. Because Picnik.com continues to impress me as a basic program for regular humans who are no more or less tech savy than a 4th grader. They continue to make things simple.

Here are some examples of my little picniking – remember after you design your stationary, all you have to do is save it as a JPG on your desk top and you can take it to the local printer or go to Vistaprint.com and get some good deals as well. It’s not impossible to have pretty invitations at a price you like. And it’s also fun to be proud and flaunt that you designed your own – suckahs!

Below the photos is a slide show on how I did some of the stuff but if you have more questions, email me. There is no music with this slideshow tho as YouTube is on to me and they aren’t letting me upload the Buble song that I originally picked. So lucky for you, you get to pick and/or hum your own music.
